THE GREAT
“The Great”, with a capital ‘T’! Generally, when we refer to something as great, we mean great in a comparative sense – that is, great in contrast to that which is less great.
When it comes to Hashem, however, we recall “כל הגבורים כאין לפניך”, “All is nothingness”. (Introductory Tefilla to Shacharis).
Hashem is not Great merely in comparison to those that are less great, rather He is Great in exclusion to everything else, for nothing possesses any greatness at all.
“הגדול” – When faced with the greatness of Hashem, everything else that may have even seemed great at first evaporates into absolute and complete nothingness.
