PRAYERS AND ENTREATIES
‘Tefillah’, ‘prayer’, denotes intensity of thought (Breishis 48:11); when a person prays, he must deeply consider and contemplate the matters between Him and his Creator: what does he desire of the Creator, and what teshuvah and good deeds must he do in order to gain His favor. Tachanunim, on the other hand, do not necessarily require deep thought, rather they are the expression of a man’s powerful desire to find חן, favor, in the eyes of Hashem, even if he is undeserving.
