Q:
Should a person take chumros on himself, even though it’s going to affect his family and others around him?
A:
No, no. Chumros, you should institute, to be more strict in your house, for yourself. If your family is willing to go along with you, try to persuade them. Some things are not chumros, some things are al pi din, you must try to persuade them. But otherwise if you want to make progress, you can do it privately in your own life. The rest of the family, let them go according to the shuras hadin and be satisfied.
