If one has brothers who are not frum, should he have nothing to do with them?

A:

This is a delicate question. And the answer is, it depends. If they’re not pressuring him to give up his principles, he should maintain a certain cordiality by telephone. He should call them up frequently.  He should send them gifts.  He should try to send them books to influence them.

But he shouldn’t bring his family to visit them.  That should be out of the question.  And he shouldn’t invite them to visit him.  But he himself can have contact with his brothers, even personal contact, if they are not going to pressure him or ridicule him.
