Q:

Is it important to make birthday parties for children?

A:

It’s unimportant.  Birthday parties—I’m not going to say you should not but I certainly will say it’s unimportant.  Make Chanukah parties for children.  Make Chamishah asar beshvat parties for children.  Make Purim parties for children.  Besides the big party for everybody else, you could make a little party for children.  If you want, make Rosh Chodesh parties for children. But to say birthday parties, I don’t say it’s a good thing to make it.  I’m not going to discourage it.  I don’t want to make people unhappy but I don’t say it’s a good thing.  Certainly, it’s not necessarily a good thing.
