Q:
To what extent should conversation at the Shabbos table be limited between my Shabbos guests, males and females who are single?
A:
Now, male and female single guests at your table should just sit and eat. That’s all their mouths should be for. They don’t come to your house to socialize.
And it’s best not to invite male and female singles together. You can have a Shabbos for single males, another Shabbos for single women. But not the same Shabbos. Because when they leave your table, they might walk together home and it’s not desirable. It’s not desirable at all.
Now, we Jews are different from the nations. We understand that there’s such a thing as a yetzer hara that is lurking all the time. And he is winning out because people don’t understand that. And there is a great necessity at all times of segregating the sexes. It just cannot be helped.
Not only Jews. Up till recently all the gentiles understood that too. Up till recently, the gentiles didn’t have public high schools for boys and girls together. For so many generations, they understood that principle. I remember years ago, the high schools were not even made close together. Boys’ high schools were far over there, and the girls far over there. Outside of walking distance! Goyim understood that. All of a sudden they became smart. And therefore now you have all the pregnancies. A big tragedy. They’re ruined people today, the gentiles.
