Q:
Why doesn’t the turkey use its wings to fly?
A:
And the answer is the turkey was made by Hakodosh Boruch Hu just like the chickens for the purpose of being useful to men.
You can ask, “Why doesn’t a turkey have a beak and talons like an eagle?” Because then it would be difficult to catch it. You have to pull a turkey into the house and give it to the shoichet to slaughter it; it would be a big job. But now it’s a tame kind of a bird.
And that’s why Hakodosh Boruch Hu made sheep that they shouldn’t have any claws and they don’t have ability to bite. Because Hakodosh Boruch Hu wants them to be a supply of food to human beings. The ruminant animals don’t have real strong teeth, incisors, on top. They have a stomach that’s capable of digesting the hard grasses because they’re not supposed to be biters.
Now therefore, we see the yad Hashem. It’s not merely an accident like the meshugoyim tell us that mankind domesticated the animals and after a while the sheep lost their claws and they lost their sharp horns and they became nice and quiet animals. No! Sheker v’kozov! Goats give milk, sheep give wool, chickens give good meat, turkeys give good meat – they’re also a form of chickens. And Hakodosh Boruch Hu created them for the purpose of being useful to mankind.
Also doves, a kosher bird, it’s good to eat doves. You ever ate a dove? Doves taste good. Pigeons taste good. And therefore, Hakodosh Boruch Hu made them docile and they live with men in dove houses on the roofs. All for the purpose of serving mankind.
