Rav Avigdor Miller on Fooling Your Father-in-law

print
Q:
What’s the best way to deal with a father-in-law?

A:
Don’t laugh. That’s a very important question. And the answer is that the very best way is to always honor him and to keep quiet. Honor your father-in-law and keep your mouth shut. The less you say the more he’ll like to you. He’ll think you’re a somebody if you keep your mouth closed. Open up your mouth, you’ll begin to bray, and he sees that you’re a donkey in disguise.

It’s very important to know that with your wife’s relatives you have to smile always, no matter what. Smile always and keep quiet. And they’ll like you. They’ll like you. If you open your mouth however, you’re in trouble.
