You said before that we shouldn’t give money to the UJA-Federation? But don’t they also do big mitzvos like giving money to the yeshivos and to Jewish hospitals?
The Federation of Jewish Charities, you have to know, are giving a paltry sum to yeshivas. It amounts to a tiny fraction of what they’re giving to the Y’s, to the YMHA or places like that.
The Federation of Jewish Charities has refused consistently to make many of their hospitals kosher hospitals. There are still treifeh Federation hospitals. They are maintaining homes, cottages for boys and girls, where they’re making animals out of them. They maintain marriage counselors who are ruining lives. Their whole system is a system of assimilation and a breakdown of Jewish family life.
And therefore if the Federation of Jewish Charities want to do a big mitzvah, they would go out of business.
Now you’ll say, so who then would support the hospitals?
Don’t worry. There’s plenty of money around and the hospitals will be supported. You know, you’ll find missionaries too who will take care of hospitals. Missionaries will give you free medical service. A lot of things missionaries do, but we understand that we don’t give them money.
Now if the Federation would have better sense and they would apply their money to saving Jewish boys and girls from shmad, from assimilation, intermarriage, that would be something else. But they’ll never do that because we know who is the spirit behind the Federation. It’s the reform rabbis. And the reform rabbis are for intermarriage! They’re the ones who officiate at mixed marriages; so it’s ridiculous to expect the Federation to raise a finger against intermarriage.
And therefore, all you can get out of them are things that will be the opposite of the purposes of the Jewish people. מרשעים יצא רשע – From the wicked comes forth wickedness. That’s a principle. From the wicked, nothing good will come.
