Rav Avigdor Miller on Justified Aggravation

print

Q:

When a person gets aggravated and upset when he sees other people doing aveiros, is that a weakness of character that a person should consider negative?

A:

When a person sees others doing wicked things, and it bothers him, it aggravates him, is his reaction justified? And the answer is yes. Yes, because the honor of Hakodosh Boruch Hu is paramount. The honor of Hakodosh Boruch Hu is always our objective.

And if you achieve that, if you acquire that attitude of having the right reaction against the wicked, you have the right to feel satisfaction that you have achieved that attitude. Because many people see wicked things being done, and it doesn’t affect them at all. It’s none of their business, they think.

So if you are affected by aveiros, that it’s a good sign. It’s an excellence, it’s a perfection of character, and you can rejoice that you have achieved that attitude.
