Q:
Should a yeshiva man take off time from his learning Gemara to learn Nach?
A:
The answer is that it’s not a wrong idea to want to learn Ne’vi’im and Kesuvim. Not at all. Only that Gemara needs a great deal of time. Gemara is our life breath and it is not so easy to learn Gemara properly.
So on Friday afternoon, when regular seder is over, you can spend a half hour learning Nach. And if you do that on a consistent basis, you’ll make tremendous progress. Every week, a half hour of Nach. Every Friday after seder, a half hour. And it’s not enough to just hear me say it. You have to get busy doing it. And there’s no question that you’ll make great progress. You’ll acquire a great deal of ye’dios.
