Rav Avigdor Miller on Motherhood Partnership

Q:

You mentioned two intentions that Chava had when she said קניתי איש את השם after she gave birth but you said there’s a third. What’s the third pshat?

A:

Chava was saying, “I acquired a man with Hashem.” A woman who has a child is a partner with Hakodosh Boruch Hu.  You’re a shutaf with Hakodosh Boruch Hu.  Such a privilege! A mother is elevated. Hakodosh Boruch Hu gives her such a kavod – “You’re My partner!”  קניתי איש את השם – That’s what the first mother was saying.

And so once more, the three things that Chava said. Number one, “I acquired a man from Hashem! What a gift it is!  I’m so happy for that great gift!”

Second, “I acquired a man for Hashem – he’s going to serve Hashem.  Another servant, another eved Hashem.”

And the third, the one we’re talking about now: “I acquired a man together with Hashem.” A great kavod! And so Hakodosh Boruch Hu, when that mother comes to the next world after 120 years, He says, “Come my partner.  You helped create!  You’re also a borei nefashos rabos – you created many people in this world.  And therefore you’re going to get a tremendous gift.  נשים שאננית, quiet women – you didn’t make a big noise in the world.  You’re not famous.  But to Me, you’re very important because of your achievements.”
