Here is a question that someone sent up on a slip of paper. Now this question really is not too erudite but I’m reading it because it’s characteristic of people. Do we not see evolution in the fact that the brain grows and becomes more capable with time and with practice?
It’s like saying look at the wonders that we see in nature. Don’t they prove evolution? It’s just the opposite. It’s just the opposite! It’s a tragedy. You know it’s a tragedy when somebody, an Orthodox Jew, tries to be more patriotic for Christianity than the pope himself is. Sometimes you find Jews leaning over backwards to defend the enemies of Judaism and they use arguments that no enemy would think of using. They’re so frum for evolution that evolutionists themselves wouldn’t think of such arguments.
The fact that the brain develops by use is as much proof for evolution as saying that the fact that there is a certain machine that the machine becomes smoother in operation when you use it longer, that’s a proof of evolution. The machine becomes smoother because there’s less friction when it’s used longer. The brain is created in such a way that the brain has capabilities. The rest of the body too, all the organs, have capabilities for development and adjustment.
Now, evolution requires a great deal of time. Nobody claims that in the course of a short lifespan anything can evolve. So the fact that the brain develops, that’s a sign of evolution?! It has nothing to do with evolution, and no evolutionist ever claimed that. And it’s really childish.
Of course I excuse the questioner because people are naïve. They think that the evolutionists have all the arguments on their side. But actually it’s as silly as could be. They themselves don’t claim this. On the contrary, the fact that in the course of a short life span the brain can develop to such a degree of efficiency that staggers the mind is only an indication that the brain has built-in capabilities.
Now where does it get built-in capabilities? Only if it’s created purposefully. Anything; not only the brain – the whole organism, the whole body, the more you move the muscles, the stronger they become, the bigger your arm becomes. You play tennis, your right arm becomes overdeveloped. A blacksmith gets big muscles. It’s a sign of evolution? Ridiculous. It’s a sign that Hakodosh Boruch Hu is a good Creator and He made the body adjustable and there are built-in mechanisms that enable the muscles and all the parts of the body to develop according to use. On the contrary, it’s one of the arguments that we use against evolutionists.
