The Honey of Tefillah

The siddur is a very deep sefer; the words of the אנשי כנסת הגדולה are a bottomless wisdom, and the more we think into them, the more we’re going to discover. When a person makes it a practice every day to think a little bit, one day on this, one day on that, he’ll begin to discover that the siddur is like a well that has no bottom. It’s so profound, that the more you practice it, the more you’re going to enjoy it.

It’s like a piece of bread – bread is starch, and when starch mixes with the ptyalin in your saliva, it starts turning into sugar. And the longer it’s in your mouth, the more it becomes sugar, and the sweeter it becomes. You have to practice the art of enjoying the davening, of sucking the honey out of davening – and then you’ll see, that the more you say the same words over and over again, the more delightful they’ll become.
