Praying in Truth

“Hashem is close to all those who call upon Him, to all who call upon Him in truth” (Tehillim 145:18). What does it mean, to ‘call Him in truth’? Who doesn’t call out in truth?

But the answer is, let’s say someone davens to Hashem for good health, but when it’s midnight, instead of going to bed he sits over a newspaper and eats a chocolate éclair – that person is not asking for good health, it’s only empty words. We must do acts that cause our tefillah to be sincere. It is true, our prayers are enough, and Hashem will take care of the rest – but that’s only when we’re really praying to Him.
